Texas DPS Adds Upshur County Murderer to Most Wanted List

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has included Alvin Charles McKnight Jr., 41, from Gilmer, in the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives List. Authorities are offering a cash reward of up to $7,500 through Texas Crime Stoppers for information leading to McKnight’s arrest. Additionally, Upshur County Crime Stoppers is providing up to $10,000 for any anonymous tip resulting in his capture. All tips will remain confidential.

McKnight, associated with the 52 Hoover Crips gang, is wanted in connection to a double homicide on the night of November 4, 2023, just after 11:30, in the 2800 block of U.S. Highway 271 South, south of Gilmer. Upon responding to a shooting report, Upshur County Deputies discovered two individuals deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. The following day, a capital murder warrant was issued for McKnight by the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office.

Standing at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing approximately 280 pounds, McKnight has distinctive tattoos on his face, chest, back, right forearm, and both upper arms. He has connections to Upshur County, Dallas, and Oklahoma City. More information and updates on his arrest status can be found on his wanted bulletin.

Texas Crime Stoppers, funded by the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division, is offering cash rewards for information leading to the arrest of Texas’ 10 Most Wanted Fugitives or Sex Offenders. In 2023, 39 individuals, including 20 sex offenders and 11 gang members, have been arrested through tips, with $88,000 in rewards paid.

To qualify for cash rewards, individuals can provide information through:

Calling the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).
Submitting a web tip on the DPS website by selecting the relevant fugitive and clicking on the link under their picture.
Submitting a Facebook tip by clicking the “SUBMIT A TIP” link under the “About” section.

All tips, regardless of the method used, will be treated as anonymous. Tipsters will receive a tip number instead of using their names.

DPS investigators collaborate with local law enforcement agencies to identify fugitives for the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and Sex Offenders Lists, which can be viewed on the DPS website. Authorities caution against attempting to apprehend these fugitives as they are considered armed and dangerous.
