Teen Driver Killed in Rollover Crash After Alleged Street Race in Channelview

A deadly crash early Sunday morning, November 24, 2024, has led to an investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. At approximately 2:16 AM, 18-year-old Juan Carlos Montanez Jr. of Channelview was driving a blue 2012 Ford Mustang with passenger 20-year-old Kimberly Cisneros when the vehicle crashed in the 1400 block of Dell Dale Street.
Montanez, who was traveling northbound, failed to stay in his lane, striking a curb before veering into the grassy median. The Mustang continued off the median, crossed the northbound lanes, and struck a curb on the east side of the roadway. The vehicle then collided with a tree, causing it to rollover multiple times. The car finally came to a stop on its right side in a front yard located at 15303 N. Silver Green Drive.
Montanez was transported to Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead at 3:17 AM. Cisneros, seated in the front passenger seat, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the crash is believed to have been the result of a street race. Authorities are seeking information about a second vehicle involved in the race, described as possibly a dark-colored Dodge Challenger. The driver of the second vehicle fled the scene.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and law enforcement is asking anyone with video footage of the area around 2:15 AM to contact Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
