Teen Driver Arrested in Houston Crash; Charged with Failure to Stop and Render Aid

A 16-year-old male has been arrested and referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation Authorities in connection with a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred at 3800 West Fuqua Street in Central Southwest Houston on Saturday night. The charge is failure to stop and render aid.

The identity of the 14-year-old male passenger who died in the crash is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

According to the Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division, Sergeant R. Dallas and Officer A. Thomas reported that a gray Buick Enclave was traveling westbound at the stated address around 10:45 p.m. on May 10th when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree in the median. The vehicle then re-entered the lanes of traffic and came to a stop across both lanes.

Both the 16-year-old male driver and the 14-year-old male front passenger fled the scene on foot but later returned. A back passenger remained trapped inside the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.

The 16-year-old driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Following his treatment, he was taken into custody and subsequently charged with failure to stop and render aid.
