Teen Dead in Eastex Freeway Crash
Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Sunday, February 18, at around 11:20 a.m. The incident took place at 7200 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59).
The victim, a 17-year-old male, lost his life in the accident. However, his identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
According to initial reports, the victim was a passenger in a black Honda Accord traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on the freeway. The driver, a 23-year-old male, was reportedly weaving in and out of traffic when the vehicle collided with a black Chevrolet Tahoe. The impact caused the Honda to leave the roadway and collide with trees in the grassy median adjacent to the freeway, resulting in the victim being ejected from the vehicle.
Emergency medical services responded to the scene but pronounced the victim deceased upon arrival. No occupants of the Chevrolet Tahoe sustained any injuries.
The driver of the Honda, after being questioned by authorities, was found not to be impaired. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
As of now, no charges have been filed, as the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
