Teen Arrested After Hit-and-Run Collision in League City

League City Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy after a major collision early this morning. The incident, which occurred around 4:05 a.m. at the intersection of W Main St and Bay Area Blvd, involved a Toyota sedan and Ford pickup truck. Witnesses reported both vehicles in the ditch, with the Ford overturned.

League City Police Officers and League City Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and found a 20-year-old man unconscious but breathing in the back seat of the Toyota. The young man was stabilized until EMS personnel took over. He was taken to a local hospital in serious condition. The Ford’s driver suffered minor injuries.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the unconscious man wasn’t the Toyota’s driver. The actual driver was a 16-year-old male juvenile who fled the scene on foot. Police identified him and contacted his parents.

The juvenile told Officers that there was a third male in the Toyota with him at the time of the accident. That third male remains unidentified.

The minor’s family transported him to a local hospital for minor injuries. Once he was released from the hospital, Officers took him into custody. The teen is charged with Accident Involving Injury.

Authorities are still searching for the third person who was reportedly in the Toyota during the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

UPDATE: On April 15, 2024, the League City Police Department was notified that the 20-year-old victim in this case succumbed to his injuries on April 14, 2024, while still in the hospital. Investigators then contacted the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, who accepted the updated charge of Collision Involving Death for the 16-year-old male juvenile. The investigation is still ongoing, as officers continue to attempt to identify the third male who was in the Toyota.
