Sweetwater Police Arrest Shoplifting Suspect with $250,000 in Alleged Trafficking Cash

On January 23, 2024, Sweetwater Police Department officers were called to Love’s Truck Stop on I-20 regarding a shoplifting suspect.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Alejandro Gonzalez-Alvarado, aged 58, detained for shoplifting.
During the investigation, officers found Alvarado in possession of approximately $250,000 in currency destined for Mexico. Further evidence suggested Alvarado’s involvement in extensive illegal trafficking activities.
Alvarado has been charged with shoplifting and money laundering exceeding $150,000 but less than $300,000. He has been handed over to the custody of the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office.
