In a significant development in the investigation stemming from the incident on September 30, 2023, Austin Police Department Detectives have determined that 28-year-old Justin Justice is the prime suspect in the shooting and killing of Teressa Ferguson during a road rage incident.
The incident occurred on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at approximately 6:00 p.m. when Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash in the 8500 block of N IH 35 southbound service road. An automatic emergency call to 9-1-1 was triggered when an Apple iPhone detected a possible accident. Call takers received an open line with no one speaking, and moments later, additional 9-1-1 callers reported a vehicle with a non-responsive driver rolling down the exit ramp of IH 35.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the vehicle with the driver, 46-year-old Teressa Ferguson, who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound. Tragically, Ms. Ferguson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following extensive investigative efforts, Austin Police Department Detectives identified Justin Justice as the prime suspect in the case. Justice is alleged to have fled the scene in his vehicle after the fatal shooting. In light of the evidence gathered, an arrest warrant for First Degree Murder was issued for Justice on October 23, 2023.
The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, in collaboration with the Austin Police Department, launched an operation on October 31, 2023, to locate and apprehend Justice. After an extensive search, Justice was discovered in the 2800 block of AW Grimes Boulevard in Round Rock, Texas. He attempted to flee on foot but was successfully apprehended by the task force.
Justin Justice has been booked into the Travis County Jail, facing charges of First Degree Murder. In a court appearance, Austin Municipal Court Judge Karchmer set his bond at $250,000.
