Suspect Dead in Officer Involved Shooting in 2900 Block of Cypress Avenue

Update:

The suspect in Friday’s officer-involved shooting died from his injuries.

An update on the investigation will be provided Monday, along with the release of body worn camera footage.

Original Post:

On April 27, 2023, around 9:45 pm, Dallas Police were called to the 2900 block of Cypress Avenue for a family violence call. The preliminary investigation determined the suspect shot two people at the home. The two victims were transported to a local hospital and are expected to survive.

After the shooting, the suspect ran into the woods near Cypress and Briggs. Air 1 was called in, along with the Canine Unit.  Around 2:30 am, the Canine Unit was on the scene searching when the officer and his canine were shot at by the suspect. The investigation determined the officer discharged his weapon, hitting the suspect. The officer was hit at least twice. The K9 was also hit. The officer was taken to a local hospital, and the K9 was taken to a local emergency veterinarian. Both have non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect’s condition is unknown. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
