Suspect Charged in Fatal Shooting on Emancipation Avenue At-Large; Victim Identified

Charges have been filed against Cedric Denzil Brooks, 32, in connection with the fatal shooting of Jarrick Hoskins, 34, at 4405 Emancipation Avenue on December 18, 2023. Brooks is charged with murder in the 482nd State District Court.

Responding to a shooting call at the mentioned address around 12:40 a.m., HPD patrol officers discovered Mr. Hoskins with at least one gunshot wound. Despite Houston Fire Department paramedics transporting him to an area hospital, doctors pronounced him deceased.

Investigators revealed that the shooting followed a verbal dispute between the victim and an unknown suspect described at the time as a black male, aged 30 to 35. Subsequent investigation identified Cedric Denzil Brooks as the suspect. On Tuesday, January 30, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office filed a murder charge against Brooks, who remains at large.
