Suspect Charged in April 2023 Midtown Shooting Incident: Victim Identified, Arrest Made

Charges have been officially filed against Drequan Watkins, 26, in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred on April 17, 2023 at 1000 Gray Street in Midtown. Watkins faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as declared by the 338th State District Court.

The incident, which unfolded around 5:55 p.m., resulted in the death of 62-year-old Kevin Lee, who was found at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds. Three additional male victims were also discovered and transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The deceased, Kevin Lee, was initially believed to be one of two shooters involved in the incident.

After conducting interviews with witnesses and analyzing evidence gathered at the scene, detectives identified a person of interest. On April 18, a surveillance photo of the individual was publicly released to aid in the investigation.

Subsequent efforts and further investigation confirmed that Drequan Watkins was a suspect in the case. Charges were formally filed on December 1, and Watkins was apprehended by the HPD South Central Crime Suppression Team with support from the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force. He has since been booked into the Harris County Jail. The legal proceedings will now unfold in the 338th State District Court.
