Suspect Arrested in Fatal Greater Third Ward Shooting on Anita Street

HOUSTON, Texas – A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred early Thursday morning in Houston’s Greater Third Ward.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to a shooting call at a residence in the 3300 block of Anita Street around 12:10 a.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2026. When officers arrived, they found a 46-year-old man inside the home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The victim’s identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives G. Zavala and K. Aloysius reported that witnesses told investigators the suspect entered the home, shot the victim, and fled the scene on foot. Officers patrolling the surrounding area quickly located the suspect and detained him without incident.

Following further investigation and consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Rogers McFarland Jr., 28, was charged with murder in the 176th Criminal District Court. He was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail.
