Suspect Arrested for First Degree Murder in Shooting Death of Abilene Man

On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 12:30 a.m., Abilene Police received a report of a possible injured individual located in the 5200 block of Highway 277 and Clack Street.

The caller informed authorities of a male lying unresponsive in the culvert area of the roadway. Upon arrival, officers and medical personnel discovered a 47-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as David Anthony Vasquez of Abilene, and next of kin notification has been made.

Abilene Police Detectives quickly identified a suspect in the case, leading to the arrest of 25-year-old Jaylen Clint Shafer, also of Abilene. Shafer has been charged with First Degree Felony Murder in connection with Vasquez’s death.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
