LA MARQUE, Texas — A man was arrested after leading officers on a pursuit and attempting to flee on foot following a disturbance call that possibly involved a firearm, according to police.

Officers with the La Marque Police Department were dispatched April 30 to an active disturbance. Upon arrival, they located a vehicle matching the suspect description and attempted to initiate a stop.

Police said the driver refused to comply, leading officers on a pursuit that ended when the vehicle was involved in a minor crash. The suspect then fled on foot toward an open field in the 3200 block of Interstate 45 in Texas City.

Officers quickly established a perimeter and began searching the area. The suspect, identified as Marcel Powell, was located and taken into custody by a K9 unit.

Authorities said a firearm was recovered from the vehicle. Powell was charged with evading arrest in a vehicle and unlawful carrying of a weapon. His total bond was set at $42,500.

The La Marque Police Department credited the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas City Police Department for assisting in the incident.
