Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Leads to Drug Bust, ICE Detentions in Navasota

A stolen property investigation by the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, led to a vehicle pursuit, multiple arrests, and the seizure of drugs, a firearm, and stolen property in Navasota.

Deputies investigating stolen property traced their efforts to the City of Navasota, where they spotted a stolen vehicle. The vehicle fled upon being observed, prompting a pursuit that continued along Highway 6 to FM 3090. The Navasota Police Department joined the pursuit to assist.

During the chase, occupants of the fleeing vehicle discarded a firearm and narcotics. The pursuit concluded on FM 3090 near Rabun Road, where the vehicle came to a stop. Two individuals were taken into custody and transported by the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office.

Pedro Campos, 33, of Navasota, was charged with:

  • Evading Arrest in a Vehicle
  • Two counts of Tampering with Evidence
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm

James Robert Steele, 34, of Anderson, was charged with:

  • Tampering with Evidence

A search of the stolen vehicle uncovered additional narcotics and evidence of stolen property. Based on these findings, the Navasota Police Department secured a search warrant for a residence in the 300 block of Turner Drive.

The warrant was executed with assistance from the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Several individuals were detained at the scene. Authorities seized additional narcotics, a firearm, and stolen property.

Two individuals at the residence—29-year-old Osmar Nathanael Medrano-Palacios and 32-year-old Jose Roan Martinez—were found to have active detention orders and were transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

All other individuals present at the scene were released pending further investigation. The case remains active.
