Austin Man Shot in Head Over Money Dispute; Suspect Charged with Murder

The Austin Police Department has arrested and charged a man with murder following a deadly shooting at an apartment complex in northwest Austin.
On Thursday, May 29, 2025, at approximately 12:08 a.m., officers responded to a Shoot/Stab Hotshot call at the Westdale Point Apartments located at 7117 Wood Hollow Drive. The 911 caller reported that someone had been shot.
Upon arrival, officers discovered 26-year-old Noah Talbott suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Waleed Beriji, had already fled the scene before officers arrived. APD Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists were called in to process the scene and speak with witnesses. Investigators learned that the incident stemmed from an argument between Talbott and Beriji regarding money. As Talbott walked Beriji to the door of his apartment, Beriji pulled a handgun from his bag and shot him in the head.
Later that day, officers located Beriji in the 3000 block of South Congress Avenue and took him into custody without incident. He was initially booked into the Travis County Jail on a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
On Friday, May 30, 2025, at approximately 2:22 p.m., Talbott was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Beriji’s charge was subsequently upgraded to 1st Degree Murder.
The investigation is ongoing.
