Spring Man Charged After 2-Year-Old Girl Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries

SPRING, Texas. A 29-year-old man has been charged after investigators say he repeatedly struck a 2-year-old girl, leaving her with life-threatening injuries.

According to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, deputies were at an Exxon station in the 25800 block of Cypresswood Drive at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, when a couple rushed to them seeking help for an unresponsive toddler.

Deputies immediately began life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived.

The child was transported to a nearby hospital, where doctors discovered she had sustained multiple life-threatening injuries. She was later airlifted to another hospital, underwent surgery, and remains in critical condition.

Investigation Leads to Child Abuse Charge

The toddler’s mother and her boyfriend directed investigators to a residence in the 3000 block of Rendezvous, where the child had reportedly become unresponsive.

Detectives with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the residence and launched an investigation.

According to investigators, evidence developed during the investigation revealed that the mother’s boyfriend, 29-year-old Gerardo Gonzalez, allegedly struck the toddler multiple times, causing her injuries.

Gonzalez has been charged with Injury to a Child – Serious Bodily Injury.

He was booked into the Harris County Jail.

“Our thoughts are with this young toddler as she continues to fight for her life,” the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office said in a statement. “Cases involving children are among the most heartbreaking first responders encounter, and we remain committed to seeking justice on her behalf.”

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
