Shoplifting Blitz in North Austin Results in Two Arrests for Organized Retail Theft
On Friday, November 22, 2024, the Austin Police Department (APD) North Metro Tactical Response Unit and North Criminal Investigation Department, in collaboration with approximately 20 local retail representatives, conducted a Shoplifting Blitz targeting The Domain, Arbor Walk, Gateway, and Arboretum Shopping Centers in North Austin. The operation aimed to support retailers by addressing suspected shoplifting incidents.
At approximately 3:15 p.m., Marshall’s Loss Prevention reported two suspects inside the store engaged in Organized Retail Theft. The suspects were seen removing anti-theft security devices and concealing stolen items such as sneakers and wallets in their clothing.
Officers nearby quickly responded, apprehending the suspects as they exited the store with the stolen merchandise. A total of $312.61 in stolen goods and tools used to remove the security devices were seized from the suspects.
Further investigation revealed that the suspects’ vehicle contained three reusable shopping bags filled with stolen items, including shoes and wallets with tags from Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, and Ross Department Stores. The stolen merchandise from the vehicle was valued at $548.79, bringing the total value of recovered goods from all three retailers to approximately $1,000.
The suspects were identified as 43-year-old Omar Cuellar Sanchez and 27-year-old Dailena Rodriguez Herrera. Both were arrested and charged with Theft Class B.
