Shooting in East Lubbock Leaves One Dead and Two Injured

The Lubbock Police Department’s Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit is currently investigating a shooting incident in East Lubbock that took place on September 16, 2023, resulting in one fatality and two individuals sustaining injuries.

At approximately 7:30 pm, officers responded to a report of gunfire in the 2600 block of Ivory Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 49-year-old Levone Madden and 63-year-old Martha Maden both suffering from gunshot wounds. Madden’s injuries were serious, while Maden sustained moderate injuries. Both victims were swiftly transported to UMC by EMS personnel, but tragically, Madden was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Preliminary investigations by the authorities indicate that Madden and 67-year-old Phenix Burns had spent the day socializing in East Lubbock. However, at around 7:30 pm, a dispute erupted in the 2600 block of Ivory Avenue. The altercation escalated into a civil disturbance, leading both Madden and Burns to produce firearms, resulting in multiple shots being fired. Maden was struck during the exchange of gunfire.

Before law enforcement officers could arrive at the scene, Burns left the area. However, during the ongoing investigation, Burns arrived at UMC in a private vehicle, also suffering from gunshot wounds. Burns sustained moderate injuries in the incident.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing.
