James Wildmon

SAN JACINTO COUNTY, Texas – A San Jacinto County jury has convicted an inmate of assault on a public servant following an attack on a detention officer inside the county jail last year, officials said.

James Wildmon was found guilty in connection with an April 2025 incident that occurred while he was housed at the San Jacinto County Jail. Authorities said Wildmon physically assaulted a detention officer during the encounter.

After a trial in district court, jurors deliberated for approximately four minutes before returning a guilty verdict. Wildmon was sentenced to 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office credited the San Jacinto County District Attorney’s Office for prosecuting the case, specifically recognizing First Chair Assistant District Attorney Rob Freyer for presenting the case to the jury.

Sheriff Sam Houston praised the outcome, stating, “Today has been a great day for the ones fighting the good fight and running the race in service of mankind and our Lord.”

Houston added that assaults against law enforcement and detention personnel will not be tolerated and said the Sheriff’s Office will continue working with prosecutors to ensure accountability for those who threaten public servants.

Officials said the agency remains committed to protecting staff working within the jail and maintaining safety both inside and outside the detention facility.
