San Jacinto County Deputy Fatally Shoots Suspect at Houston Hospital

A San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office deputy fatally shot a 34-year-old male suspect at HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood on Monday, February 24, 2025, at approximately 8:55 p.m.

The suspect’s identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The deputy was not injured.

According to the Houston Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit, San Jacinto County deputies had arrested the suspect on numerous felony charges. He sustained injuries during the arrest and was taken to the hospital for treatment before being transported to the San Jacinto County Jail.

While at the hospital, deputies maintained custody of the suspect. After a medical procedure, the suspect was returned to his room. He requested the deputy loosen his leg restraints.

As the deputy loosened the restraints, the suspect allegedly initiated a violent struggle, grabbing the deputy’s collar. The deputy attempted to break free, but the suspect continued the assault. The deputy struck the suspect with his baton and gave verbal commands, but the suspect continued to advance and grabbed the deputy’s collar again.

During the struggle, both the suspect and the deputy fell to the ground, with the suspect landing on top. The suspect then attempted to take control of the deputy’s firearm and successfully grabbed it. A struggle over the weapon ensued, during which the deputy regained control and discharged several rounds, striking the suspect.

The deputy immediately notified dispatch and hospital medical staff, who attempted life-saving measures. However, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

As is standard procedure when a law enforcement officer discharges a weapon within Houston city limits, the HPD Special Investigations Unit is conducting an investigation.
