San Benito Man Arrested for Choking Ex-Wife and Resisting Arrest
On Monday, January 1, 2024, at around 8:00 pm, Cameron County Sheriff Deputies responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 32000 block of Bent Tree, San Benito, Texas. Upon arrival, deputies encountered a 24-year-old female victim who reported being assaulted by her ex-spouse, identified as 22-year-old Christian Ruiz.
The victim stated that as she was leaving the residence, Ruiz became upset and threw a baby stroller at her. Subsequently, he allegedly grabbed her by the throat for approximately 30 seconds, causing her distress and dizziness. Deputies observed redness on the victim’s throat consistent with signs of strangulation.
When deputies attempted to arrest Ruiz, he became belligerent and non-compliant. Despite physical resistance and refusal to follow verbal commands, deputies successfully detained him after a struggle. Christian Ruiz was then arrested and transported to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center, where he awaits arraignment.
Christian Ruiz faces charges of Assault Family Violence – Impede Breath/Circulation TPC 22.01, a 3rd Degree Felony, and Resisting Arrest Search or Transportation TPC 30.03, a Class A Misdemeanor.
