Robbery Suspect Charged After Officer-Involved Shooting in Houston
Michael Lewis

Charges have been filed against a robbery suspect involved in an officer shooting incident last Friday at 2600 Almeda Genoa Road around 9:15 p.m.

Michael Lewis, 56, faces charges of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon with a felony conviction in the 486th State District Court. He is also charged with evading arrest in Harris County Criminal Court #4. Lewis remains hospitalized for injuries sustained in a fight with a victim he attempted to rob. HPD Officer X. Wallace discharged his duty weapon during the incident.

The suspect, not hit by gunfire, was engaged in a physical altercation with a victim, caught by officers responding to a passerby’s report. Officers witnessed the suspect pick up a gun from the ground, prompting commands to drop the weapon. The suspect refused, walking away armed. Officers followed, ordering him to stop, but he turned towards them with the gun. One officer discharged his weapon, not hitting the suspect.

Despite continued commands and the deployment of conducted energy devices, the suspect remained armed and on the move. Eventually, he discarded the handgun over a fence, leading to his arrest. Paramedics transported him to the hospital for injuries sustained in the struggle with the victim.

The victim, who was sleeping in his parked vehicle, reported the suspect knocking on his door with a gun, demanding money. A struggle ensued, with the victim managing to release the magazine from the suspect’s gun. However, a shot was fired during the struggle, and the victim subdued the suspect, sustaining a minor foot injury.

The incident is under investigation by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Internal Affairs Division, in accordance with standard procedure for officer-involved shootings.
