river Arrested in San Leon Hit-and-Run That Left Woman Seriously Injured

SAN LEON, Texas — A Galveston County woman has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian seriously injured earlier this month, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 11:10 p.m. on February 18, 2026, to an auto-pedestrian crash in the 2600 block of East Bayshore Drive. A passing motorist discovered an injured woman lying in the grass near the roadway. The victim told deputies she had been struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene.
Emergency medical personnel transported the woman to UTMB Clear Lake, where doctors determined she suffered internal injuries.
Investigators recovered a damaged passenger-side mirror at the crash site and determined it belonged to a white Nissan. The case was assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, where detectives used license plate reader technology to identify the vehicle as a 2008 Nissan Versa and locate its registered owner.
On February 24, detectives located the vehicle and its owner, Ana Ruiz-Zarco, 59, who admitted she was driving at the time of the crash.
The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office accepted a charge of Collision Involving Serious Bodily Injury. Ruiz-Zarco was taken into custody by the Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Division, and bond was set at $25,000.
