Repeat Offender Arrested After High-Speed Chase, Drugs Found During Pursuit in Houston

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — On the afternoon of August 7, 2025, deputies from Precinct 8 Street Crimes Unit conducted surveillance on 28-year-old Jusus Ramiro Benitez, who had three active arrest warrants in Harris County.
The warrants included a felony for Evading in a Motor Vehicle, and misdemeanor warrants for Theft and Assault Family Violence. When marked patrol units attempted to stop Benitez, he fled in his vehicle. During the chase, he drove through the Clear Lake Community Center parking lot and discarded narcotics later recovered by deputies as cocaine and methamphetamine.
Benitez then drove off-road down a pedestrian path in Exploration Green, where civilians were present. His vehicle became stuck in the mud near a residential area, prompting him to flee on foot. Deputies apprehended him after a short pursuit.
A search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 19.7 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 43 methamphetamine pills, about 20 grams of cocaine, 1.8 ounces of marijuana, and nine THC vape cartridges.
Benitez was charged with felony evading arrest in a motor vehicle and two felony counts of possession of controlled substances with intent to deliver. He was booked into the Harris County Joint Processing Center on those charges along with the three outstanding warrants. Bonds were set totaling over $93,000.
