Reckless Driving Call Leads to DWI Arrest After Crash Near New Waverly

SAN JACINTO COUNTY, Texas – A report of a reckless driver in the New Waverly area resulted in a driving while intoxicated arrest after deputies located a crashed vehicle along State Highway 150, according to the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were responding to complaints of dangerous driving when dispatchers advised them of a motor vehicle crash in the same area believed to involve the suspect vehicle. Upon arrival, deputies found a disabled vehicle matching witness descriptions.
Witnesses identified Lesman Buezo Romero as the driver involved in the incident. Sheriff Sam Houston, who arrived first at the scene, detained Romero while deputies conducted their investigation.
Authorities said deputies observed signs of intoxication and discovered open containers of alcohol inside the vehicle. Romero provided a breath sample that indicated a blood alcohol concentration more than twice the legal limit.
Based on the investigation, Romero was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.
Officials credited witnesses who reported the reckless driving and remained on scene to assist deputies, stating their actions helped prevent a potentially more serious incident.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that impaired driving remains a significant public safety concern and said deputies will continue proactive enforcement efforts to protect motorists.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Anyone with information regarding criminal activity is encouraged to contact the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office or submit anonymous tips through Multi-County Crime Stoppers.
