Police Chase Ends in Tragedy: Stolen Vehicle Collision Results in Fatality and Arrest

On Saturday, February 24, 2024, at approximately 3:49 am, Jaime Joel Rook-Perez stole a black 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee while traveling southbound in the 20600 block of Hufsmith Kohrville Road.

An unidentified individual was in the front passenger’s seat of the Jeep. Rook-Perez attempted to evade authorities from both Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office.

While operating the stolen vehicle, Rook-Perez failed to maintain a single lane and collided with a tree on the east side of the roadway. The passenger was discovered unresponsive at the scene at 3:56 am.

Jaime Joel Rook-Perez was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital Downtown for treatment and subsequently arrested for felony murder, evading in a motor vehicle, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The deceased passenger’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate this incident.
