34-year-old Samantha Washington was sentenced to 25 years in prison and fined $5,000 for the murder of her estranged husband, 28-year-old Gregory Kirk. Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg made the announcement late Thursday.

The crime took place on May 11, 2021, when Kirk, who was on his lunch break outside his workplace, was playing with his 3-year-old son, brought by Washington. Eyewitnesses and surveillance footage captured the horrifying moment when Washington pulled out a handgun and shot Kirk in broad daylight.
The couple, who had three children together, was separated at the time of the incident. Assistant District Attorneys Matthew Magill and Nevin Denise Day from the DA’s Domestic Violence Division prosecuted the case.
Magill revealed that Washington had sent threatening messages to Kirk a week before the attack. The surveillance video showed her approaching Kirk, shooting him, and callously walking away. In a chilling turn of events, she returned to the scene and shot him in the heart as he pleaded for his life.
Following the shooting, Washington was arrested by the Pasadena Police Department on the same day. She has been convicted of murder and must serve at least half of the 25-year sentence before becoming eligible for parole. The court also imposed a $5,000 fine on Washington.
DA Kim Ogg expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “This woman had a premeditated plan of attack to intentionally kill the father of her children and went through with it in broad daylight. It is an absolute tragedy that because of her, this man’s kids will grow up without a father.”
