One Dead and One Injured in Fire at Milagro Plaza Apartments in Sharpstown Area
On the evening of November 28, 2023, the Houston Fire Department (HFD) responded to a fire at the Milagro Plaza Apartments located at 6500 Dunlap St in the Sharpstown area. The incident was reported at 9:07 pm.
Upon arrival within five minutes, firefighters encountered heavy smoke emanating from the balcony of a third-floor apartment. A prompt response led to the deployment of an aerial ladder for the emergency rescue of a victim stranded on the balcony. The rescued individual was transported to the hospital for medical attention.
Tragically, a second civilian was discovered deceased at the scene. The valiant efforts of the fire crews also extended to saving a dog from the affected apartment.
The firefighting teams successfully extinguished the fire and meticulously checked for any signs of extension to ensure the safety of the residents. In light of the incident’s nature, HFD Arson investigators were summoned to ascertain the cause and origin of the fire.
A total of 58 personnel from various stations, including the Village Fire Department, were mobilized to handle the situation.
Preliminary estimates indicate approximately $200,000 in damages resulting from the fire. The toll on human lives includes one civilian transported to the hospital and another civilian found deceased.
