Off-Duty Deputy Shoots at Suspect in Carverdale, HPD Investigating

Houston police are investigating a shooting incident involving an off-duty Harris County Precinct 6 deputy that occurred on Saturday afternoon in the Carverdale area.

At around 1:30 p.m. on February 3, the off-duty deputy discharged his weapon at a suspect near 5600 Burnside Lane. The deputy himself was unharmed in the incident.

The deputy had observed an unknown suspect reportedly peering into parked cars in the vicinity. Upon seeing the suspect enter the driver’s seat of a vehicle with an apparent intention to flee, the deputy intervened. A witness nearby, upon noticing the suspect attempting to burglarize another parked vehicle, tried to block the suspect’s vehicle with their own.

However, the situation escalated when the suspect reversed their vehicle towards the deputy, who was standing in the street. In response, the deputy fired multiple shots at the suspect’s vehicle. It remains uncertain whether the suspect was struck by the gunfire. Subsequently, the suspect collided with a parked vehicle before fleeing the scene in their own vehicle.

Although the suspect is currently at large, law enforcement managed to recover their abandoned vehicle in a nearby location.

No Houston Police officers discharged their weapons or were involved in the altercation.

Following protocol, the Houston Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit is conducting an inquiry into the incident.

Authorities are urging anyone with pertinent information to reach out to the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
