Motorcycle Crash Claims Life in Harris County as Deputy Constable Pursues Suspect

At approximately 6:26 PM on January 6, 2024, an incident occurred on Wallisville Road in Harris County, Texas, resulting in the death of an unidentified male motorcyclist.

The incident involved an off-duty Liberty County Precinct 4 Deputy Constable chasing the unidentified male on a white 2016 Yamaha dirt bike. The deputy constable, operating a privately owned vehicle equipped with emergency lights and siren, was pursuing the motorcyclist westbound in the number one lane of 4200 E. Wallisville Road.

As the pursuit continued, the unidentified male may have been traveling above the speed limit. Near the intersection of E. Wallisville Road and Haney Road, Michael Ashworth (54) was operating his blue 2001 Chevrolet Silverado, towing a flatbed trailer. Mr. Ashworth, traveling in the opposite direction, was making a left turn (north) onto Haney Road.

During the turn, the Yamaha rider entered the intersection, colliding with the front right of Mr. Ashworth’s trailer. The impact resulted in the unidentified male separating from the motorcycle and briefly becoming airborne before landing on the roadway.

Emergency services were called, and the unidentified male was transported via Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Tragically, he was later pronounced deceased. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division is actively investigating the incident, and the case remains open.
