Montgomery County Drug Trafficking Operation Leads to Multiple Arrests

SOUTH MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX – A multi-agency investigation led by the Montgomery County Narcotics Enforcement Team (MOCONET) has resulted in the arrest of four individuals following a counter-drug trafficking operation in South Montgomery County.
The investigation was launched after a fatal overdose in the area. Working closely with the Department of Public Safety (DPS), the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, and the DEA, law enforcement coordinated an enforcement operation on September 22, 2025, in the Tamina community. Multiple search warrants were executed with the assistance of Montgomery County SWAT, DPS Special Operations, and Walker County SWAT teams.
The operation led to the arrests of:
- Otis Smith – charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance
- Calandra Tartt – charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance
- Berry King II – charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Tampering/Fabricating Physical Evidence with Intent to Impair
- Derrick Russell – charged with Possession of Marijuana
During the operation, authorities also seized multiple narcotics and firearms, including fentanyl, various pills, crack cocaine, powder cocaine, THC products, marijuana, and five firearms.
