Montgomery County Deputy Killed in Inmate Transport Accident

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is grieving the loss of Deputy Charles Rivette, who tragically lost his life in a vehicle crash while transporting an inmate. The incident occurred at 10:26 pm on February 21, 2024, at the I-45 at the 173-mile marker, as reported by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Rivette had been with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for almost 18 years. His colleague, Deputy James Francis, who has served for nearly 13 years, also sustained serious injuries in the crash. The inmate being transported was also injured.

Sheriff Henderson expressed deep sorrow over the loss, extending condolences to Deputy Rivette’s family, friends, and colleagues. He stated, “The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office family is lifting up Deputy Rivette, Deputy Francis, and the injured inmate in our prayers.”

The Texas Department of Public Safety is conducting an investigation into the incident.
