Mont Belvieu Police Arrest Two for Theft and Mischief After Late-Night Encounter

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, Mont Belvieu Police Night Shift officers apprehended two individuals suspected of theft and criminal mischief. The incident unfolded at approximately 2:00 a.m. on FM 565 near Loop 207, where officers encountered two men behaving suspiciously.

Upon investigation, the Officers discovered a significant section of copper wire/cabling that had been severed from overhead lines. The individuals were in the process of cutting the stolen material into smaller sections near their pickup truck. Police recovered the wire along with various cutting tools as evidence, leading to the arrest of both suspects.

The arrested individuals were identified as 37-year-old Jack Mayfield from Bacliff, TX, and 32-year-old Timothy Sanford of Crosby, TX. Mayfield faces charges of felony theft and criminal mischief. Meanwhile, Sanford faces similar charges along with additional allegations of Possession of Marijuana and Evading Detention. The latter charge was incurred after Sanford attempted to flee from one of the officers.

Both suspects are currently in custody as the investigation continues.
