Memorial Villages Police Officer Injured in Head-On Collision While Escorting Oversized Load in East Texas

On Friday, January 24, 2025, Officer Craig Taylor of the Memorial Villages Police Department in Harris County was involved in a serious accident while assisting with an oversized load escort on State Highway 62 in Newton County, East Texas.

While riding his motorcycle during the escort, Officer Taylor was struck in a head-on collision, sustaining multiple severe injuries.

According to an update from his family, Officer Taylor suffered brain trauma, with one critical injury addressed in Beaumont. Another surgery on the front of his skull is scheduled in the coming days. He has sustained broken bones in both arms and legs, as well as facial fractures and neck trauma. He remains heavily sedated due to the extent of his injuries but has shown signs of responsiveness, opening his eyes and giving a thumbs up when prompted by nurses.

The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and support, stating: “This man we love so much is a fighter. He is fighting with all the strength he has and making huge strides throughout the days. Your support means the world to our family.”

Officer Taylor has a long road to recovery, and the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
