Mayor Whitmire and VoteHouston Encourage Civic Participation with Voter Education Initiative

With Election Day approaching, Mayor John Whitmire is urging Houstonians to participate in the upcoming election through VoteHouston, a nonpartisan voter education initiative focused on empowering the community with essential information for making informed decisions at the polls.

“Elections matter, and the choices we make today will shape the future of our city,” stated Mayor Whitmire. “VoteHouston is working to ensure residents have access to critical election information.” Educational materials are being distributed across all City of Houston libraries, multi-service centers, water bill inserts, local newspapers, and digital platforms to encourage informed civic engagement.

Since August, VoteHouston has reached thousands of residents, offering resources in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Chinese, while partnering with local organizations to improve voter accessibility. METRO is providing free rides to polling locations citywide to support this effort.

“METRO is proud to support Houstonians in exercising their right to vote by providing transportation to polling locations across the city,” said METRO Chair Elizabeth Brock. “Our goal is to remove transportation barriers and ensure that every Houstonian can make their voice heard.”

Mayor Whitmire encourages all residents to visit VoteHouston.org and download METRO’s app for free rides and voting details. Early voting is set to begin soon. For more information, visit VoteHouston.org.
