Martin County Inmate Faces Additional Charges After Assault on Correctional Officer
In a recent incident, on September 7, 2023, Destinee Johnson, who had been previously arrested by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office on September 4, 2023, faced additional charges. Johnson was initially taken into custody for Failure to Identify and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
However, on September 7, while still in the custody of Martin County, Johnson assaulted a correctional officer. She struck the correctional officer in the head with a toilet brush and attempted to make an escape by running towards a locked door leading to the Administration area, away from the jail area.
Fortunately, Johnson was unable to breach the locked door, and jail staff swiftly apprehended her. She now faces an additional charge of Attempted Escape Causing Bodily Injury, which is classified as a Felony of the Third Degree.
As of now, Destinee Johnson remains in custody, facing a total of two felony charges and one misdemeanor charge. Thankfully, no one involved in the incident sustained serious injuries, and the situation was promptly resolved with no further disruptions.
