Man Pleads Receives Life Sentences for Killing Two Family Members in College Station

BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas—A man has been sentenced to two concurrent life terms after pleading guilty to a double murder and aggravated assault of family members that occurred in May 2024.
Mike Epperson received two life sentences for two counts of Murder, 20 years for two counts of Aggravated Assault, and 10 years for Harassment of a Public Servant. He will not be eligible for parole until he has served 30 years.
According to Assistant District Attorney Kevin Capps, on May 23, 2024, Epperson shot and killed two family members and wounded a third at their shared residence. He also threatened his grandmother with a firearm. Capps noted that methamphetamine abuse was a factor in Epperson’s conduct.
After the shootings, Epperson fled the scene in a vehicle. He was spotted by Killeen Police officers just before 5 a.m. the next morning. Following a slow-speed pursuit, he surrendered to police. During an interview with College Station Police Department detectives at the Killeen jail, Epperson confessed to the killings.
“It is impossible to imagine the level of suffering inflicted by this defendant on his family,” Capps said. “This sentence is an appropriate response to the senseless carnage perpetrated by the defendant.”
The case was investigated by the College Station Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Kevin Capps and Caleb Beacham. The District Attorney’s Office also thanked the Killeen Police Department for their assistance in the apprehension.
