Man Killed in Attempted Robbery in Austin

On Monday, May 15, 2023, at approximately 2:49 a.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) received a call regarding a shooting in the 7700 block of Springfield Drive. The caller reported a man was shot inside a vehicle. Officers at the scene found the driver of the vehicle, Brian Serrano, with apparent gunshot wounds. Serrano died on the scene. A woman who was a passenger in the vehicle had minor injuries from debris during the shooting.

Investigators believe this started as a robbery committed by several suspects unknown to Serrano and the woman, which escalated into a murder. The suspects abandoned their stolen vehicle and left the area in another one.
