Man Found Dead After House Fire on Southmont Street in the South Park area of Houston

Houston police are investigating the death of a man found after a house fire at 6003 Southmont Street.

An HPD sergeant on patrol noticed heavy smoke in the area at about 3:10 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, and found a residence on fire. The Houston Fire Department was called and firefighters extinguished the fire.

After the fire was put out, a man was found inside the home and pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Eric Edwards, 42.

According to HPD Homicide Division Detectives M. Perez and K. Aloysis, the investigation is pending autopsy results to determine the cause of death.

The Houston Fire Department Arson Division is investigating the cause of the fire.
