Man Fatally Shot While Fleeing Suspect on South Freeway; Investigation Ongoing

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man on the South Freeway (U.S. Highway 288) near the 6000 block, which occurred around 11:10 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the median of the freeway’s HOV lanes and discovered the victim, believed to be between 40 and 50 years old, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. The victim’s identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Witnesses reported seeing a male suspect chasing the victim and firing at him. Police located a male matching the suspect’s description, but as they attempted to detain him, he fled on foot. The suspect was arrested for charges unrelated to the shooting.
