Lubbock Teen Arrested After Woman Shot Outside 34th Street Convenience Store

LUBBOCK, TX – An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a convenience store shooting in central Lubbock, thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit, SWAT, and the Texas Anti-Gang Unit.
The shooting happened around 5:08 a.m. on November 2 at a convenience store in the 4400 block of 34th Street. Officers arrived to find a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her legs. She was transported by EMS to University Medical Center with moderate injuries.
Investigators say the victim was standing outside the store when a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Ricky Cerna pulled up with a female passenger. The woman reportedly went inside to ask about using the restroom but was denied and returned to the car. Cerna then began yelling at the victim before firing three shots at her as she tried to go back inside. Cerna fled the scene immediately after.
Following the investigation, a warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon was issued for Cerna on November 4.
On November 5, LPD SWAT and the Texas Anti-Gang Unit executed the warrant at a residence in the 500 block of 48th Street, taking Cerna into custody without incident.
He was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $300,000 bond.
Police commended the teamwork between multiple units for quickly identifying and apprehending a dangerous suspect.
