Lubbock Police Investigate Pursuit-Related Collision Leading to Arrest of Suspect
The Lubbock Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into a collision that occurred following a pursuit, leaving a male suspect with moderate injuries.
On the evening of Saturday, October 14, 2023, just before 7:30 pm, a Lubbock police officer on patrol in the vicinity of 120th Street and Avenue P recognized 37-year-old Ira Herrera. Herrera had previously been involved in a domestic disturbance call in the 2200 block of 88th Street.
During the initial course of the investigation, the officer attempted to stop Herrera. However, Herrera evaded officers in his vehicle and continued to travel south on Avenue P. The pursuit took a dangerous turn when Herrera’s vehicle collided with barricades at the closed intersection of 130th Street and Avenue P. Despite the collision, Herrera continued east on 130th Street until his vehicle entered a ditch in the 1700 block of East 130th Street, eventually rolling over and striking a utility pole before coming to a stop.
Ira Herrera sustained moderate injuries in the accident and received on-scene medical treatment from EMS personnel. The Major Crash Investigation Unit (MCIU) responded to the scene to conduct an investigation into the incident.
Subsequently, Herrera was placed under arrest and transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center. He is facing several charges, including stalking, evading arrest, driving while intoxicated with three or more convictions, making terroristic threats, and an unrelated warrant.
