Louisiana Woman Arrested After Fleeing Traffic Stop on IH-10

A Louisiana woman was arrested Tuesday morning after fleeing a traffic stop on Interstate 10 in Chambers County, according to Sheriff Brian Hawthorne.

At approximately 10:59 a.m., a Chambers County Sheriff’s Office deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Mya Norris at the 817-mile marker of IH-10 eastbound in Wallisville. The stop was made due to observed traffic violations.

During the roadside interview, the deputy reportedly noticed indicators of potential criminal activity. After Norris refused consent to a vehicle search, a K-9 unit was requested to the scene. While awaiting the K-9’s arrival, Norris allegedly fled on foot back to her vehicle and initiated a pursuit.

The suspect fled eastbound, and the pursuit concluded at South Major Drive in Beaumont, Texas, where Norris was taken into custody without further incident. At the time of her arrest, she was found to be in possession of a handgun.

Mya Norris faces charges of Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon (UCW).

Sheriff Hawthorne expressed his appreciation to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Beaumont Police Department for their assistance in this incident.
