K-9 Traffic Stop in Houston Leads to Drug Seizure, $1.2 Million Bond for Driver

HOUSTON, Texas -A traffic stop by a Harris County Precinct 8 K-9 deputy early Saturday morning resulted in the seizure of a significant amount of suspected illegal drugs and the arrest of a 44-year-old man.

According to the Harris County Precinct 8 Constable’s Office, K-9 Deputy K. Peters conducted a traffic stop at approximately 1:26 a.m. on Aug. 8 in the 10500 block of the Gulf Freeway in Houston’s Greater Hobby Area after observing multiple traffic violations involving a Honda.

K-9 Alerts to Narcotics

During the stop, K-9 Duke conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics.

Based on the alert, Deputy Peters conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and recovered what authorities described as a significant quantity of suspected illegal drugs.

Driver Faces Three Felony Drug Charges

The driver, identified as Derek Duane Hale, 44, was arrested and charged with three counts of Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1.

Hale was transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center, where he was booked without incident.

His total bond was set at $1.2 million.
