Houston Woman Shoots Her Brother in Alief Area Home; Charges Upgraded to Murder

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 2, 2024, Houston Police Officers responded to a shooting incident at 12114 Tambourine Drive in the Alief area. At 5:25 am, 30-year-old Yaquelin Artiga-Rosales reportedly shot her 26-year-old brother.

Following the incident, Artiga-Rosales dialed 9-1-1 and took responsibility for the shooting. Houston Police Department (HPD) patrol officers arrived at the scene, detained her without incident, and successfully recovered the weapon involved in the incident.

The victim, Artiga-Rosales’ 26-year-old brother, was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition.

In response to the situation, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office was notified, leading to Artiga-Rosales being charged with aggravated assault of a family member. Subsequently, she was booked into the Harris County Jail.

UPDATE: On Wednesday (Jan. 10), the victim passed away from his injuries. The suspect, Yaquelin Artiga-Rosales, 30, was initially charged with aggravated assault of a family member in the 182nd State District Court. The charge has now been upgraded to murder in the 182nd State District Court.
