Houston Teen Charged in Fatal Robbery That Left 16-Year-Old Dead, Police Continue Search for Person of Interest

HOUSTON, Texas – A 16-year-old suspect has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that claimed the life of another teenager during an apparent robbery in southeast Houston.

The Houston Police Department announced that the juvenile suspect has been referred to the Harris County Juvenile Probation Authorities on a charge of aggravated robbery. Because the suspect is a juvenile, his name and photograph have not been released.

The shooting occurred at approximately 3:55 p.m. on May 7 in the 8700 block of Blackhawk Ridge Lane.

According to HPD Homicide Division Sgt. J. Nielsen and Detective A. Herrera, responding officers found 16-year-old Jadiel Rodriguez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced Rodriguez dead at the scene.

Investigators also learned that a second male suffered at least one gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital.

During the investigation, detectives determined the injured male was also a suspect in the incident and later filed charges against him for his alleged role in the robbery.

On Aug. 5, the second juvenile suspect turned himself in to authorities.

Person of Interest Still Sought

The investigation remains active.

On May 22, Houston police released a photograph of a person of interest known only as “Junior.” Detectives continue seeking to identify and question that individual.

Police emphasized that “Junior” is wanted for questioning only and has not been charged in connection with the case.
