Houston Police Needs Help Locating Person of Interest in Fatal Shooting on West Gulf Bank Road
Houston police are reaching out to the community for assistance in locating a person of interest connected to a fatal shooting that occurred on September 7, 2023. The incident took place at approximately 2:45 a.m. on West Gulf Bank Road, resulting in the death of Sherniqua Banks, 34, and the injury of a 41-year-old man.
The person of interest in question has been identified as Dominique Menefee, aged 30. An August booking photo of Menefee has been attached to the official police news release.
On the night of the incident, officers were dispatched to the scene following a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered the victims inside a crashed vehicle. Sherniqua Banks was found in the driver’s seat, succumbing to multiple gunshot wounds, while the male victim, a front-seat passenger, sustained injuries but is expected to survive. Fortunately, Banks’ 3-year-old son, who was in the backseat, escaped unharmed.
A witness at the scene provided crucial information, indicating that the victims’ vehicle and another car were traveling eastbound on West Gulf Bank Road when individuals in the other vehicle opened fire. The suspect’s vehicle eventually suffered a tire blowout and fled the scene after hitting a curb. Nearby, officers located a vehicle with matching damage and detained two individuals for questioning. However, they were subsequently released without charges, as it is believed that a third individual, the suspected shooter, had fled on foot before the police arrived.
Subsequent investigation led law enforcement to identify Dominique Menefee as a person of interest in connection with the case. Authorities are urging anyone with information about Menefee’s whereabouts or details related to the shooting incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information about Dominique Menefee’s whereabouts or in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or speak anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
