Houston police have arrested two additional suspects in connection with a robbery that preceded a fatal shooting at 3400 Unity Drive on Sunday, September 21, at approximately 11:05 p.m.
The newly arrested suspects are 18-year-old Jhalmar Ariel Aguilar-Soriano, charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and theft in the 337th Criminal District Court, and a 16-year-old male juvenile, who was referred to the Harris County Juvenile Probation Authorities on charges of aggravated robbery and theft.
The initial suspect, 18-year-old Henry Steven Aguilar, is charged with capital murder and evading arrest in the 185th Criminal District Court, as well as aggravated robbery in the 232nd Criminal District Court. A booking photo of Aguilar has also been released. The victim in the shooting has been identified as 25-year-old Felix Caxaj Tax by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
According to HPD Homicide Division Detectives A. Finlay and B. Stephens, officers first responded to a robbery and carjacking on Skyline Drive. The victim reported that his vehicle was forcibly taken by three Hispanic males, one of whom was armed with a rifle. Two of the suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle, while the armed suspect escaped in a black four-door sedan.
While investigating the robbery, officers were alerted by a citizen to a male lying on a nearby sidewalk. Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Additional investigation revealed that the armed suspect drove west to the corner of Unity Drive and Skyline Drive, where he attempted another robbery. During the encounter, the victim tried to defend himself but was shot. That suspect was identified as Henry Steven Aguilar.
With the assistance of the South Gessner Patrol and Southwest Patrol Tactical Units, police located both Aguilar’s black vehicle and the car taken during the earlier robbery. On Monday, September 22, officers attempted to make contact with Aguilar, who fled in a motor vehicle and then on foot before being taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail.
On Tuesday, September 23, HPD identified and arrested Aguilar-Soriano and the juvenile male suspect in connection with the crime. Authorities reported that all three suspects are believed to have committed additional violent offenses on or around September 21 using a black Infiniti G35 sedan and a short-barrel AR-15 rifle with a white tip.
