HOUSTON, Texas — A Houston man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of a woman whose body was discovered near a bayou in southwest Houston last month, according to the Houston Police Department.

Daniel Arnulfo Ceron, 22, is charged with murder in the 262nd State District Court.

The victim was identified as 33-year-old Amarra Persia Conway. Conway was a transgender woman.

According to HPD Homicide Division Detectives W. Huff and J. Nguyen, patrol officers responded at approximately 8:15 a.m. on May 25 to a report of a body in a stormwater catch basin adjacent to a bayou in the 8900 block of Country Creek Drive.

Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced Conway deceased.

Investigators launched a homicide investigation and later identified Ceron as a suspect in the case.

On June 10, officers assigned to the HPD Westside Division Gang Unit, with assistance from the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, located and arrested Ceron.

Police said Ceron subsequently confessed to his role in Conway’s death.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has officially ruled Conway’s death a homicide.

Investigators have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the killing.

The Houston Police Department’s homicide investigation remains ongoing.
