On January 16, 2024, at 8:45 p.m., firefighters responded to a reported apartment fire at 1445 Lakeside Estates Dr. in the Briar Forest area of Houston.

Upon arrival within three minutes, firefighters discovered light smoke emanating from the second floor of a 2-story apartment building. An offensive attack was initiated, and the siding was pulled to gain access to the fire. Heavy smoke was found in a second-floor unit, originating from the air conditioning heating vent.

A primary search was conducted, and utilities were controlled. Additional Houston Fire Department (HFD) units were requested as the fire was traced behind a dryer in a first-floor unit laundry room, spreading through the ductwork to the second floor.

Firefighters successfully extinguished the fire and used fans to ventilate the affected units. A total of four apartments sustained smoke and water damage.

As a precaution, one child was transported to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation. The American Red Cross was notified and arrived at the scene.

A total of 42 personnel responded to the incident, including crews from Stations 2, 78, 83, 10, 57, 60, 69, 75, and 57. The cause of the fire is reported as unintentional.
